Kevin Meldrum

Company: Agilent Technologies

Job title: Vice President & General Manager, Genomics Division

Kevin joins Agilent with over 30 years of experience in the life sciences industry, most recently as vice president of marketing at Illumina. He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Kevin moved to California following graduate school and worked in several start-ups before joining HP/Agilent in 1998.

Kevin’s first role with Agilent was as product manager for the BioAnalyzer.  He subsequently took on various roles in strategic planning, business development, and marketing (genomics as well as nuclear magnetic resonance, or NMR, with the acquisition of Varian). He left Agilent in 2010 to join Life Technologies, responsible for original equipment manufacturer (OEM) opportunities for their Genetic Analysis platforms including qPCR and Next-Generation Sequencing (Ion Torrent).

In 2014, after Life Technologies was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific, Kevin moved to San Diego and joined Illumina. During his five years with the company, he was responsible for all the marketing aspects of their core technology portfolio including sample prep, sequencing, and genomic analysis software. Under his tenure, the company launched numerous sequencing platforms ranging from the entry-level iSeq to its flagship platform, NovaSeq.

Kevin lives in Encinitas, California with his wife SueAnn. They have two boys living, working, and playing (he’s convinced it’s mostly the latter) in New York City. Together, they enjoy hiking, bike riding, and skiing, though it’s a long trek to the snow from the San Diego area.
